Ndamukong Suh signing could be the Super Bowl luck the Eagles need

The Philadelphia Eagles continued to stack up their defensive line for a Super Bowl push, signing veteran Ndamukong Suh.

The Philadelphia Eagles suffered their first loss of the season this past Monday at the hands of the rival Washington Commanders. Prior to Week 10, the team lost rookie defensive tackle Jordan Davis to a high ankle sprain and was subsequently placed on the injured reserve.

After the Davis injury, the Eagles brought in former Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants defensive tackle Linval Joseph on Wednesday. The Eagles weren’t done there, as they also brought in another big-name lineman to add to their defense one day later.

On Thursday, NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Eagles signed Ndamukong Suh to a one-year deal.

If anything, this shows that the Eagles are hellbent on making a run to the Super Bowl.

Signing Ndamukong Suh is a Super Bowl move for the Eagles

In recent years, Suh has had a Super Bowl impact on the team that signs him. Ahead of the 2018 season, the Los Angeles Rams signed Suh to a one-year contract. That was the very year where the Rams made it out of the NFC West and defeated the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints to make it to Super Bowl 53. Of course, the Rams lost 13-3 to the New England Patriots.

The following year, Suh signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and became part of the team’s vaunted defense. He re-joined the team for the 2020 season, and the team won Super Bowl 55 by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9. In that game, he recorded two total tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Philadelphia’s defense needed some help to defend the run. This year, the team surrendered an average of 124.8 rushing yards per game (13th-highest in NFL). That was an area that needed to be addressed, since they play some run-heavy offenses in the Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears, and Giants (twice) in their final eight games of the season.

The Eagles filled the void left by Davis by signing Joseph. Then, literally days later, they signed Suh to really stack their defensive line that already contains Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, and Robert Quinn. That could spell disaster for their opponents down the stretch, and help pave a clear path to Super Bowl 57 from Philadelphia in what is a winnable NFC.
