Watch Qatar vs. Ecuador live stream World Cup 2022 group stage
The 2022 World Cup kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 20 when Qatar hosts Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. Here’s what you need to know to watch.
Qatar will make its World Cup debut on Sunday when they take on Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium in the city of Al Khor.
The game kicks off the 2022 World Cup, marking the first time that the World Cup will be held in the Middle East. It is also the first time that the World Cup is played in late fall rather than in the summer.
The buildup to this World Cup has been rife with scandal, starting from the moment 12 years ago when FIFA awarded the tournament to the Arab state over issues regarding human rights, drinking alcohol in public and treatment of people who identify as LGBTQ.
Qatar and Ecuador are both in Group A with the Netherlands and Senegal. Qatar won the Asian Cup in 2019 and reached the semifinals of the Gold Cup as an invited team last year.
Qatar will also be looking to qualify for the round of 16. Only one host nation (South Africa back in 2010) has ever failed to reach the knockout stage in World Cup history. The home-field advantage will certainly help over the course of the group stage.
Ecuador, meanwhile, qualified out of South America and can be a tricky side. Featuring an exciting group of young players, led by Moises Caicedo, have high hopes to grab points from this encounter.
