The Tennessee Volunteers may have lost to the Georgia Bulldogs, but they still had a strong chance to make the College Football Playoff. They had winnable games remaining on the schedule. If they could manage to win out, and wait for the fallout from the Ohio State-Michigan game, and Conference Championship week, they stood a good chance of sneaking into the Playoff.

Yeah, about that. Tennessee got stomped by the South Carolina Gamecocks by a ridiculous score of 63-38. Hendon Hooker put up good numbers, but it wasn’t enough to catch up with South Carolina, who led for the entire game.

Sadly, Hooker left the game late in the second half due to a left knee injury. It’s unknown how serious it is and if he’ll miss any time.

In the game, Hooker completed 25-of-42 pass attempts for 247 yards and three touchdowns, while running for 25 yards on five carries.

Blake Corum showed just how important of a role he has played in Michigan’s success this season. That alone shows why he should be in serous consideration for the Heisman Trophy. He may not be the favorite, but he’s in the Top 3.

Facing off against the Illinois Fighting Illini, Corum ran for 108 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, while also catching two passes for 39 yards. The majority of those numbers arrived in the first half. He didn’t make much of an impact in the second half, however, as he suffered a left leg injury that limited him to just one play.

Corum’s absence was huge, as Michigan barely snuck out with a win on a game-winning field goal by Jake Moody, who made all four of his field goal attempts in the second half.

On the year, Corum recorded the third-most rushing yards (1,457) and second-most rushing touchdowns (18) among all running backs in the nation.

There was good news after the game, as head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that Corum’s knee was “structurally good.”

It will be interesting to see what his availability will be when Michigan takes on Ohio State in “The Game.”
