The Buffalo Bills suffered a scare against the Detroit Lions, but were able to pull out the 28-25 victory on Thanksgiving.
In the NFL, the Detroit Lions playing on Thanksgiving is an annual tradition. Sadly for Lions fans, that also means a Thanksgiving Day loss. But, the Lions gave the team a lot to be excited about for their future.
The Lions managed to tie the game up at 25-25 against the Buffalo Bills with just 23 seconds remaining. As it turns out, that was too much time left for Bills quarterback Josh Allen to bring the team into field goal range. He connected on a 36-yard pass to wide receiver Stefon Diggs. After two scrambles by Allen, Tyler Bass walked onto the field and nailed a 45-yard field goal that just squeaked inside the left goal post.
With this, the Bills are now 8-3 on the season, while the Lions dropped to 4-7, bringing an end to their three-game winning streak.
Twitter reacts to Bills beating Lions on Thanksgiving with game-winning field goal
Twitter users shared their thoughts on the Bills pulling out the close victory in Detroit.
The Lions were able to take a late 22-19 lead early in the fourth quarter on a one-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jared Goff to wide receiver D.J. Chark. That score would hold until there were less than three minutes remaining on a five-yard touchdown pass from Allen to Diggs to take the 25-22 lead. Detroit was able to march down the field, but with some questionable clock management, ultimately settling on a 51-yard field goal by Michael Badgley that just snuck inside the right upright.
But as fans all saw, it was the Bills who were able to take the lead with just two seconds remaining.
Allen finished the game completing 24-of-42 pass attempts for 253 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
Goff threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns while completing 23-of-37 pass attempts.
The Bills have now won on the past two Thanksgivings. Meanwhile, the Lions will wait until next year to try and win their first Thanksgiving game since 2016.
