Watch Michigan players plant flag in Ohio State ‘O’ after dominant upset win

The Michigan Wolverines planted their flag at Ohio Stadium after crushing the Buckeyes in “The Game.”

As is tradition, the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes take part in “The Game,” during the final week of the college football regular season, aptly dubbed rivalry week. Last year, the Wolverines ended an eight-game losing streak against the Buckeyes. Now, they have themselves a winning streak.

On Saturday, Michigan entered halftime with a 20-17 deficit, and completely bulldozed Ohio State in the second half to secure the 45-23 victory. With this, the Wolverines are heading to the Big Ten Championship Game, and are on track to clinch a College Football Playoff berth for the second consecutive season.

As if Buckeyes fans who packed inside Ohio Stadium weren’t already miserable after the game, those who didn’t head for the exits before the end of regulation saw Wolverines players plant their flag at midfield.

Michigan players plant flag at midfield of Ohio Stadium

This was a page out of Baker Mayfield’s playbook after he planted Oklahoma’s flag at midfield after beating Ohio State back in 2017.

Michigan star running back Blake Corum was limited due to a knee injury that forced him to wear a brace. That would seemingly put Michigan at a disadvantage, but that was far from the case.

Donovan Edwards officially iced the game late in the fourth quarter, as he scored 75- and 85-yard touchdowns with Michigan up 31-23. On the day, he ran for 216 yards on 22 carries.

Quarterback J.J. McCarthy had his best showing in the team’s most important game of the year at this point. He completed 12-of-24 pass attempts for 263 yards and three touchdowns. All three of those scores came on deep passes measuring more than 40 yards each. McCarthy also ran for 27 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

The momentum of this rivalry has gone in the favor of Michigan. Meanwhile, Ohio State must sit and wait to learn of their Playoff fate.
