Which teams could be buyers and sellers at the upcoming MLB Winter Meetings in San Diego?

When the 2022 MLB Winter Meetings kick off on Sunday in San Diego, thousands of MLB executives, agents, and members of the media will be in attendance, and all will be waiting to see which big-name free agents land with which teams for the 2023 season and beyond.

So which teams could make an impact at the MLB Winter Meetings? Let’s look at five franchises that may not only be aggressive in their pursuits of free agent targets, but also have roster needs to address in order to boost their hopes for a deep run in the 2023 postseason.

Teams to watch closely during MLB Winter Meetings: Houston Astros

Yes, the team that won it all in 2022 is looking to reload to make a run at a repeat in 2023, and owner Jim Crane has already made it clear that the Astros plan to do more this offseason, even after inking Jose Abreu to fill the void at first base.

Crane mentioned at Abreu’s introductory press conference that Yuli Gurriel and Justin Verlander were still possibilities to return to the team, and Houston has been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Cody Bellinger, Willson Contreras, and other free agents as well.

Will Houston announce a move during the Winter Meetings? Knowing their aggressiveness so far this offseason, don’t be surprised if that happens.
