The Arizona Diamondbacks have bolstered their bullpen, signing free-agent reliever Miguel Castro to a one-year deal for next season.

Free-agent reliever Miguel Castro and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in agreement on a contract, pending physical, according to sources familiar with the situation. The contract is a one-year deal worth $3.5 million.

How can Miguel Castro help the Diamondbacks?

Castro, 27, is coming off an injury-ridden season with the New York Yankees, where he was sidelined since July with a strained right shoulder. When healthy, he has been inconsistent, posting a 3.45 ERA in 69 appearances with the Mets in 2021. In 2022, after being acquired by the Yankees for left-hander Joel Rodriguez, he posted a 4.03 ERA in 34 appearances.

In Arizona, Castro provides much-needed bullpen depth. The Diamondbacks have been aggressive in the bullpen market, sources say, and could add another reliever even after signing Castro.
