Deion Sanders leaving Jackson State for Colorado: Best memes and tweets
By Scott Rogust
After spending three seasons at Jackson State, head coach Deion Sanders is making the jump to the Pac-12 to lead the Colorado Buffaloes.
The coaching carousel may not have been as chaotic as it was the year prior, but there have already been some big moves. Matt Rhule returned to the college ranks to lead Nebraska while Luke Fickell left Cincinnati to replace Paul Chryst at Wisconsin.
But, there was buzz that the Colorado Buffaloes were making a move to hire Deion Sanders as their next head coach. After a successful tenure at Jackson State, fans wondered which university would be able to get him to make the jump.
That answer was indeed Colorado.
Bruce Feldman of The Athletic tweeted that Sanders informed Jackson State players after their SWAC title win on Saturday that he was accepting the head coaching job at Colorado.
Colorado football’s official Twitter account also confirmed the news, which included a great photo edit of Sanders wearing team apparel while staring at the Rocky Mountains.

“I’ve chosen to accept the job elsewhere next year,” said Sanders. “I’m going to finish what we started. We’re going to dominate. I’m going to be here until that end, and that conclusion. And when that [concludes], we will move on.”

Twitter users reacted to the news of “Prime Time” heading to the Pac-12 to lead the Buffaloes football program.
Colorado athletic director Rick George commented on the hiring of Sanders in the team’s official news release:
"“There were a number of highly qualified and impressive candidates interested in becoming the next head football coach at Colorado, but none of them had the pedigree, the knowledge and the ability to connect with student-athletes like Deion Sanders,” George said. “Not only will Coach Prime energize our fanbase, I’m confident that he will lead our program back to national prominence while leading a team of high quality and high character.”"
Sanders’ first head coaching gig came at Jackson State, and he never had a losing season while leading the program. After going 11-2 in the 2021 season, Sanders managed to recruit the top prospect in the 2022 class in defensive back Travis Hunter. This year, Jackson State went 12-0 following their 43-24 win over the Southern Jaguars in the SWAC Championship Game on Saturday.
In his three years as Jackson State head coach, Sanders holds a 27-5 record. Sanders is still expected to coach the team in the Celebration Bowl against North Carolina Central in the Celebration Bowl on Dec. 17.
With the move now official, Sanders will now look to lead Colorado back to its former heights after finishing this season with just one victory. “Prime Time” is now in the Pac-12.
