SAN DIEGO — Executives, agents, and members of the media have begun gathering for the 2022 MLB Winter Meetings. Here are three things we are watching here in San Diego.

It’s already been an active offseason, with Jacob deGrom landing a big contract with the Texas Rangers, Jose Abreu filling a need for the Houston Astros at first base, and the Seattle Mariners making a pair of trades to land Teoscar Hernandez and Kolten Wong to make their roster stronger.

Yes, some teams have already checked things off their to-do lists, but there are still plenty of moves to come this offseason. Here are some of the things I’ll be keeping an eye on while the MLB Winter Meetings start to ramp up.

MLB rumor: Carlos Rodon pursuit picking up speed

When deGrom inked his deal with Texas, it set off a domino effect for the New York Mets and other teams who need to fill a spot in the rotation with someone of Rodon’s caliber. The Mets could be even more determined to land someone like Rodon or Justin Verlander, with Andy Martino of SNY reporting that, “The Mets are determined to land one of those two aces.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, and Minnesota Twins have also been named as potential landing spots for the soon-to-be 30-year-old southpaw. Additionally, San Francisco is reportedly still holding out hope of a reunion with Rodon, who led all MLB pitchers with 12.0 strikeouts per nine innings last season and a 2.25 FIP.
