Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham offered a hilarious message to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day after beating USC to win the Pac-12 in back-to-back seasons.

With Utah heading back to the Rose Bowl, Ohio State is probably heading to the College Football Playoff after USC lost to the Utes for the second time this season in the Pac-12 Championship Game in Las Vegas on Friday night.

Despite not playing on Championship Weekend, Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes are in prime position to get the last spot in based on USC’s defensive collapse to Kyle Whittingham’s Utes team. Though the two-time defending Pac-12 champions are not heading to the playoff this year, Whittingham prematurely congratulated Day on Ohio State finessing its way into the big dance…

“Coach Day, you’re welcome.”

Utah’s Kyle Whittingham congratulates Ohio State’s Ryan Day on playoff berth

While Ohio State was widely seen as a top-tier team this season, the Buckeyes have lost The Game twice in a row to a much more physical Michigan Wolverines team. Last Saturday’s loss in The Horseshoe was especially brutal. Ohio State fell apart at the seams during the final frame. Of course, Ohio State needed Utah to upset USC to merit playoff inclusion, and USC got blown out…

Oh, there will be a great Twitter debate over who will be getting, despite the field is largely being set. Georgia is a guarantee to make it in, regardless of what happens in Atlanta vs. LSU. The same principle applies to Michigan when it comes to their neutral-site game vs. Purdue in Indianapolis. As long as TCU does not get blown out by Kansas State, the Horned Frogs are likely getting in, too.

Ultimately, Ohio State will probably edge out Alabama for the last spot in because the Buckeyes only have one loss on the season. While it was a home blowout defeat, the Crimson Tide suffered two losses in huge rivalry games, albeit by a combined four points to Tennessee and LSU. Alabama fans may be bargaining for inclusion, but the Selection Committee is likely siding with Ohio State…

Utah is not making the playoff, but Whittingham is a lock for the College Football Hall of Fame.
