2023 MLB Draft lottery: Where to watch and stream, betting odds and more

For the first in MLB history, the annual MLB Draft will come with a whole new look and set of rules.

As part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), there will now be a “lottery” put into place at the event.

Much like in the NBA and NHL, non-playoff teams will be put into a group that will be randomly selected for the first overall pick in the draft.

When and where is the MLB Draft lottery taking place?

The draft lottery will be held on Tuesday, December 6th at 8:30pm ET.

The event will take place at this year’s Winter Meetings in San Diego, California.

MLB fans will be able to tune into the first-ever draft lottery on MLB Network.

How to stream the MLB Draft lottery

Fans can stream the draft lottery on MLB.com with a subscription to MLB.tv or on fuboTV, which offers a free trial.

MLB Draft lottery odds explained

The answer to this one is simple. Major League Baseball wants there to be no incentives for finishing with the league’s worst record.

The Nationals, Athletics and Pirates all share a 16.5 percent chance at landing the first pick now as they were the worst of the bunch during the 2022 regular season.

Are any teams ineligible to participate in the lottery?

Technically, no.

However, no large-market teams (AKA clubs that do not receive revenue sharing) can qualify for the lottery in two consecutive seasons.

On the other end, no small-market teams can qualify for the lottery in three consecutive seasons.
