Cardinals broadcaster Dan McLaughlin arrested for DWI again

Longtime St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster Dan McLaughlin was arrested and charged with DWI.

Dan McLaughlin just finished his 25th season as the voice of the St. Louis Cardinals. The broadcaster was arrested on Sunday night for persistent DWI, which carries a maximum prison sentence of four years.

McLaughlin was arrested in the suburban area of Creve Coeur, Missouri after police say they received multiple calls regarding a vehicle driving erratically in traffic. McLaughlin placed both himself and others in danger, and will now have to pay the consequences.

In a statement, Ball Sports Midwest admitted the were “aware that Dan McLaughlin was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated Sunday night. We are very disappointed to hear this, and are working to gather additional information before offering further comment.”

Sadly, Dan McLaughlin has a history of similar incidents. In both 2010 and 2011, McLaughlin was arrested in two separate incidents on DUI charges. After his second arrest in just over a year, McLaughlin entered a two-week alcohol rehabilitation program and was suspended by the organization.

While McLaughlin was able to avoid jail time by serving 90 days probation his last go-around, it’s unknown if he’ll be able to do so again.

After the 2011 incident, McLaughlin released a statement through his attorney apologizing for his actions:

“I’m truly sorry,” McLaughlin told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I thank God every day that I didn’t hurt myself or anybody else because of my stupidity and a totally selfish act. While (the second arrest) is one of the worst nights of my life — I don’t expect people to understand this, but it has turned out to be one of the best things that ever could have happened to me because I realized I needed to seek help.”

McLaughlin went on to admit he was an alcoholic, and was receiving treatment. Our thoughts are with him and his family as he deals with another alcohol-related incident.
