3) AL East Power Rankings: Baltimore Orioles
Yes, those same Baltimore Orioles move ahead of the Rays in the AL East Power Rankings. Finishing strong last year and only three games behind the Rays for a playoff berth will do that.
The Orioles haven’t lost much of significance. And while they haven’t done anything crazy on the scale of signing Carlos Correa, we can’t sleep on this potential giant. If there is one team out there capable of throwing a lot of money at a franchise-altering player or making a big trade, it’s them.
The Orioles have a nice young core of position players. They do lack pitching, particularly in the rotation. Thus far, they’ve only brought in Kyle Gibson to help give them a little more credibility. The rest of their projected rotation is filled with young and hungry guys with a ton to prove.
Even before making any of those blockbuster additions, the Orioles look like they have momentum on their side. The Rays have the potential to catch them with one free agent signing. Until then, let’s give the Orioles some credit for how well they played last year. Tampa Bay just doesn’t have enough offseason right now. The Orioles have a ton of it. We’re going to wake up one morning and see a piece or two was traded for a star pitcher.
