2. Cam Reddish could find a home with the Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers appear to have their backcourt of the future in Ty Haliburton and rookie Bennedict Mathurin. They could have some solid backcourt depth in Chris Duarte, rookie Andrew Nembhard and Buddy Hield (if only for a few more months or one more year at most). In the frontcourt, a Myles Turner trade is likely coming but Jalen Smith and Isaiah Jackson seem like a reasonable pairing to roll with for now. The obviously missing piece right now is a bigger wing who can defend 3s and 4s and help space the floor around Haliburton and Mathurin.

Calling Reddish a floor-spacer at this point is fairly aspirational — he’s only made 28.9 percent of his catch-and-shoot 3s this season. But he did hit 38.9 percent of his catch-and-shoot 3s last year and for all his other offensive shortcomings he’s always projected as a reasonably solid standstill, spot-up shooter.

The Pacers aren’t going to get enough from the Knicks to include Myles Turner so they could simply try offering something like Goga Bitadze and Oshae Brissett, and maybe a second-round pick. That gives the Knicks two other young players on one-year deals to audition for roles in Tom Thibodeau’s circus. The Pacers try out Reddish at the 3 and if they like what they see, can try to extend him this offseason at a reasonable price. If it doesn’t work out, they haven’t really sacrificed anything meaningful.
