The Army football uniforms for the annual Army-Navy Game are always special, but what do the ones the Black Knights are wearing in the 2022 matchup mean?

There is always so much to take in when it comes to the annual Army-Navy Game. From all of the cadets in uniform in the stand to the ceremonial aspects of the game to the throwback triple-option football fans are treated to for 60 minutes, it’s amazing. But one of the more modern traditions has been the special uniforms.

That’s the case again for the 2022 Army-Navy Game as both programs are wearing special jerseys and helmets for the game.

When looking at the Army football uniforms for Saturday’s game, they look nothing like the normal jerseys. So what exactly are the Black Knights doing with their uniforms and what’s the meaning behind them?

Army football uniforms explained for 2022 Army-Navy Game

As is largely covered in the hype video that the Black Knights released unveiling the Army football uniforms for this rivalry game, their uniforms are designed to honor the 1st Armored Division from World War II on the 80th anniversary of the historic Operation Touch.

The details of these uniforms are absolutely unreal. The green and yellow colorway of the uniforms is a direct reflection of the 1st Armored Division. Meanwhile, the way the colors are blended and the design of the uniforms is to be in the light of an M3 tank and with the brown tones mimicking mud splatter.

The numbering is also an homage to the tanks as it is in the same font used on the M3 tanks and there is also a patch from the 1st Armored Division on the helmets with more mimicked mud splatter on the helmets as well.

It’s always incredible to see what these programs come up with for the uniforms in the Army-Navy Game and the Black Knights knocked it out of the park with their 2022 iteration.
