Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was arguably having his best game of the season, but unfortunately had to leave early with a head injury.

It hasn’t been an easy first season with the Denver Broncos for Russell Wilson. After being dealt to The Mile High City with hopes of creating a Super Bowl contender, Wilson and Nathaniel Hackett haven’t held up their end of the bargain. Meanwhile, Denver’s defense continues to deliver week after week.

But some moments are bigger than sports. In Wilson’s best game of the season to date, in which he threw three touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs defense, he was removed from the contest with what looked to be a serious head injury.

Wilson was taken to the blue tent immediately after suffering the injury. The still photos of the incident don’t look great, either.

Russell Wilson injury update

Russell Wilson’s status hasn’t been updated, but we’ll let you know when we have something definitive. Given Wilson was injured in the second half of the contest, odds are he will miss the rest of the game. What happens beyond Week 14, however, is a mystery.

Broncos season was lost even with Russell Wilson

If we’ve learned anything about head injuries this season, it’s to not rush a player back. Tua Tagovailoa unfortunately had to learn this the hard way. If Russell Wilson did suffer a serious concussion, expect Nathaniel Hackett and Co. to follow concussion protocol, and take the matter very seriously.

Who is the Broncos backup quarterback?

Russell Wilson’s backup quarterback with the Broncos is Brett Rypien. Rypien played in two games so far this season — once against the Carolina Panthers and again vs the New York Jets. Denver lost both of those contests, though it’s tough to place the blame on Rypein entirely.
