The Toronto Blue Jays signed a New York Met in free agency in starting pitcher Chris Bassitt to fill their rotation.

The Toronto Blue Jays made two notable moves this offseason — trading outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners, and signing former Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Keirmaier. They were linked to New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo, but he decided to remain in Queens on an eight-year deal. Now, the Blue Jays have made a move for one of the best starting pitchers available.

According to ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Blue Jays and former Mets starting pitcher Chris Bassitt have agreed to terms on a deal.

For those wondering what the exact terms of the deal are, we have you covered.

Chris Bassitt contract details: Blue Jays add to starting rotation

Per Passan, Bassitt is receiving $63 million on a three-year contract.

Additionally, Bassitt’s contract includes a limited no-trade clause, in which he can give the Blue Jays eight teams that he doesn’t want to be traded to per season, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Last winter, Bassitt was acquired from the Mets in exchange for minor league pitchers J.T. Ginn and Adam Oller. That fortified New York’s pitching rotation led by Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer.

In his first season with the team, Bassitt recorded a 3.42 ERA, a 1.145 WHIP, a 15-9 win-loss record, 167 strikeouts, and 49 walks over 181.2 innings (30 starts).

This offseason, the Mets watched deGrom sign a five-year, $185 million deal with the Texas Rangers, and Taijuan Walker join the Philadelphia Phillies on a four-year, $72 million contract. New York filled their voids in the rotation with 2022 AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander and veteran Jose Quintana. Then, the team agreed to terms with Kodai Senga on a five-year contract to fill out their rotation without Bassitt.

Not much longer after the Senga deal was reported, Bassitt is joining the Blue Jays on a multi-year contract.
