With the NBA choosing to rename the league MVP award after Michael Jordan, the ongoing GOAT debate can finally end.

It’s over now. Hall of Famer Michael Jordan will forever be the greatest basketball player of all time. The latest news reaffirmed that.

Tuesday’s announcement by the NBA that they’re renaming the league MVP trophy after Jordan should close the door on several and possibly all arguments,

Yes, fans of LeBron James will not be pleased. James will likely become the league’s All-Time leading scorer eventually, passing the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. However, if any player should have his name placed on the league MVP trophy, it would be Jordan. His legacy lives large to this day, and his global impact continues to grow.

The NBA put the nail in the coffin of the GOAT case by renaming the league MVP trophy after Michael Jordan.

A few stats, for those who don’t remember what Michael Jordan was as a player — A six-time NBA Champion, a five-time league MVP, a 14-time All-Star, a 10-time scoring champion, and as a guard was named to the NBA defensive first-team nine times. Any more questions?

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Jordan did not lose in the Finals. 6-0. Not once did any of those series get to a Game 7. Additionally, when Jordan played, his path to a title was loaded with Hall-of-Fame opponents.

The Eastern Conference featured several Hall of Famers, and the competition in the Finals was no pushover either. Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, Gary Payton, and finally, John Stockton and Karl Malone. In the East were Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, and, notably, the Bad Boy Pistons. That level of competition alone says volumes.

What a remarkable and excellent jewel to add to the crown of Michael Jordan. If anyone deserved an award named after him, it would be His Airness. Case closed.

dark. Next. What’s wrong with the Chicago Bulls right now?
