Carlos Rodon biggest losers: Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox were floated as a possible destination for Rodon, as were most teams. What stings most about Boston losing out is that they’ll have to see him play for their biggest rival. Rodon gives New York possibly the best rotation in all of baseball. Meanwhile, the Sox are having an offseason from hell, in which they’ve lost the likes of Xander Bogaerts and more.

It’s not over yet, either, with both Michael Wacha and Nathan Eovaldi connected to other suitors. To make matters worse, Scott Boras finished up the Rodon contract with the Yankees while at Fenway Park.

Yikes.

Carlos Rodon biggest losers: San Francisco Giants

San Francisco signed Ross Stripling a few days ago, signaling that they themselves might be out on Rodon, who spent the 2021 season with the Giants. Rodon was well within the Giants price range, but after signing Carlos Correa, Farhan Zaidi focused his attention elsewhere.

The Giants still have a capable, deep rotation without Rodon, but they lose a Cy Young caliber starting pitcher. Getting beat out by the Yankees for two high-profile free agents in the same offseason isn’t easy, either.

Carlos Rodon biggest losers: Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals

The Rangers were once in on Carlos Rodon, as they wanted to add him to the top of their rotation alongside Jacob deGrom. That…didn’t go according to plan. As for the Cardinals, their chances at signing Rodon were always deemed a longshot. However, St. Louis has a greater need for starting pitching, leaving some fans to wonder what the hell John Mozeliak is doing, other than sitting on his hands.
