The NFC playoff picture cleared up a bit with the Giants win over the Commanders, which clinched the playoffs for the Cowboys.

The New York Giants just did the Dallas Cowboys a huge favor.

With a Giants win over the Commanders on Sunday Night Football, the Cowboys clinched the playoffs despite their loss earlier on Sunday.

The divisional battle was always going to set the stage for the final weeks of games. The Giants are now in a good spot ahead of Washington, who has to look over their shoulder at the Seahawks and Lions.

NFC playoff picture after Giants beat Commanders

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (13-1) -x
  2. Minnesota Vikings (11-3) -z
  3. San Francisco 49ers (10-4) -z
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-8)
  5. Dallas Cowboys (10-4) -x
  6. New York Giants (8-5-1)
  7. Washington Commanders (7-6-1)

Left out:

  • Seattle Seahawks (7-7)
  • Detroit Lions (7-7)

The Giants have to close out the campaign with road cames against the Vikings and Eagles sandwiching a home game against the Colts. Getting the win on Sunday night was huge for them considering the remainder of their schedule.

The Commanders don’t have it easy either. They travel to face the 49ers next week before home games against the Browns and the Cowboys to end the regular season.

The Seahawks still have to take on the Chiefs, Jets and Rams. The Lions get Panthers, Bears and Packers.

As for the Cowboys, now that the playoffs are clinched they can focus on improving their seeding. It’s a long shot, but they still have a chance to win the NFC East. The first step to keeping that dream alive involves beating the Eagles when they meet next week. Then they’ll travel to take on the Titans and Commanders.
