Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford recently revealed his thoughts on retirement amid speculation.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford recently appeared on his wife, Kelly Stafford’s podcast, The Morning After with Kelly Stafford, and revealed his thoughts on retirement.

When Kelly asked her husband if he was retiring, he said, “No.”

Stafford, currently suffering from a spinal cord contusion, was placed on injured reserve by the Rams on Dec. 3.

Is Matthew Stafford the future of the Rams?

Stafford signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Rams in March 2022. During the offseason, he underwent an elbow procedure on his right elbow after experiencing pain throughout the 2021 season.

Stafford, who played for the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2020, was traded by the Lions to the Rams in a package involving quarterback Jared Goff, a 2021 third-round pick, and two first-round picks in 2022 and 2023.

The trade seemed to be the right decision for the Rams as in Stafford’s first season, they won Super Bowl LVI in their home stadium, SoFi Stadium, and defeated the Cincinnati Bengals.

During the 2021 season, Stafford recorded 4,886 passing yards and 41 passing touchdowns. 2021 was one of Stafford’s best seasons; he recorded his third-highest passing yards and tied for his highest passing touchdowns.

Before his recent injury, Stafford had recorded 2,087 passing yards and ten touchdowns. The spinal contusion is not the first injury Stafford suffered this year; he went into concussion protocol following the Rams’ Week 9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With Stafford on injured reserve, the Rams claimed former Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield off waivers. Mayfield made his debut for Los Angeles in Week 14, where he led the Rams to a game-winning 98-yard drive with no timeouts and 1:45 remaining in the game, which became the longest touchdown drive of his career.

Seeing as Stafford has no plans to retire, will the Rams stick with him past 2023?
