3 quarterbacks Raiders should replace Derek Carr with in 2023, No. 2: Aaron Rodgers
How about a reunion of the best quarterback-wide receiver combination in recent memory?
Aaron Rodgers has been the subject of constant trade rumors ever since the report dropped on the first night of the 2021 NFL Draft that he wanted off of the Green Bay Packers. Ultimately, both sides were able to reach a mutual agreement to work their way through the 2021 season. Then, the Packers and Rodgers agreed to a three-year, $150.8 million contract at the start of the 2022 league year.
But this season, the Packers offense hasn’t been able to put up the same production as in year’s past. One major factor in that has been the fact that the team traded Davante Adams to the Raiders. So, Rodgers is relying on Green Bay mainstays Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, and newcomers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.
Much like the Raiders, the Packers have an important decision to make at the quarterback position. They need to decide whether they want to exercise Jordan Love’s fifth-year option. If not, Love will be a free agent at the end of the 2023 season. If they do, Love will be under contract with a hefty salary cap hit.
Given Rodgers’ contract and the fact that the Packers haven’t lived up to their lofty expectations like in years past, could they decide to part ways via trade? If that is the case, which isn’t a given, the Raiders would be a logical landing spot due to the presence of Adams.
