TCU Horned Frogs head coach Sonny Dykes seems to think that the Alabama Crimson Tide and (SEC as a whole) should work on their scheduling a bit.

Sonny Dykes is still fighting for respect for the TCU Horned Frogs and the Big 12.

It appears that making the College Football Playoffs in his first season as the head coach of the Horned Frogs isn’t doing enough to get TCU some respect. Of course, taking a couple of talented athletes from the Alabama Crimson Tide via the transfer portal isn’t enough either.

Dykes is now committed to taking some shots at the SEC.

The Citadel’s most recent SEC foe is Alabama, back in 2018, so it’s been a few years. But, that’s not to say that the Crimson Tide and other SEC teams haven’t played a few FCS foes in recent years. The SEC has been helping bankroll a number of athletic departments with some buyout games (that are important to the existence of many FCS programs), just as TCU did with Tarleton State this season.

For those actually keeping score at home, let’s examine this with some strength of schedule math magic and science for a moment, shall we? Alabama’s strength of schedule is currently ranked at No. 14 in the country. Meanwhile, TCU’s SOS sits at No. 31.

When looking at their strength of records, TCU is No. 3 while Alabama is No. 5. Michigan is currently No. 1 overall in this statistical category.

But, for Dykes’ general remark at the SEC vs. the Big 12 scheduling strategies, it’s worth keeping in mind that there aren’t any Big 12 teams that currently boast a top 10 SOS. There are, however, a total of SEVEN teams from the SEC in that grouping: Auburn, LSU, Florida, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Missouri, and Tennessee.

That’s not to say the Big 12 is weaker than the SEC. We just saw the Texas Tech Red Raiders stuff the Ole Miss Rebels into a locker in the Texas Bowl down in Houston. The Big 12 as a whole has been thrilling to watch this season and there are a ton of good programs from the conference, including the Horned Frogs.

If nothing else, Alabama’s Sugar Bowl match-up against the Big 12 champs, the Kansas State Wildcats, is suddenly a lot more interesting than it already was.
