3 Cubs prospects they can deal for top talent right now
For a blockbuster trade, Cubs may have to give up top prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong
Yes, it’s always a bit disconcerting when a team has to give up its top prospect, which is what Pete Crow-Armstrong is for the Cubs. However, if the right trade is on the table for a team that, frankly, needs to start competing at a higher level given their current roster construction and that trade has to include the 20-year-old former first-round pick, then they might have to do it.
Like Alcantara, Crow-Armstrong came to the organization as part of the team’s 2021 trade deadline fire sale as he joined from the Mets in the Javier Baez trade. He finished last season playing High-A ball for the South Bend Cubs and continued to impress as he slashed .287/.333/.498 over 63 games with nine homers, 15 doubles, seven triples, 34 RBI and 19 stolen bases.
As a left-handed hitter, that only makes Crow-Armstrong an even more attractive asset that Chicago could potentially deal if the right trade were to come along and, at just 20 years old, he’s already gaining a ton of buzz. He has pop but is also a great athlete and is considered one of the best defensive prospects in baseball right now.
Again, trading Crow-Armstrong is more along the lines of break-in-case-of-emergency for the club. But if it means locking up someone like a Rafael Devers, Sandy Alcantara or another star they can build around for the future that’s already proven their worth in the bigs, then dealing Crow-Armstrong could prove worth it for the Cubs.
