Red Sox rumors: Brewers have plenty of assets to trade

Brewers shortstop Willy Adames was mentioned in trade rumors earlier this offseason, mainly linked to the NL East and the Atlanta Braves as they looked for a Dansby Swanson replacement. It appears Milwaukee is intent on hanging on to Adames for now, but it might be worth making the call.

If Adames is off-limits, an area Milwaukee has a surplus of talent is plus-level pitching. Both Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff would be expensive, and trading a prospect like Triston Casas would only be the beginning. Casas would headline the trade package, and the Brewers would surely want some MLB-ready talent back from the Sox.

The Red Sox have been willing to trade Alex Verdugo, per recent rumors, and Milwaukee could use the outfield depth. A trade package including both Verdugo and Casas would be painful for Red Sox fans, but acquiring an ace-level pitcher in Burnes or Woodruff makes it all worth it.

Burnes won the NL Cy Young award in 2021, and finished eighth last year with a 2.94 ERA in 33 starts. Woodruff is likely the more attainable asset, as the two-time All-Star was 13-4 with a 3.05 ERA last season.
