In a moment which made football feel like an afterthought, Damar Hamlin’s life hung in the balance. Finally, we’ve received something positive to report about the Bills safety’s health.

Damar Hamlin remains sedated and in the ICU in critical condition, so it’s important to state that there is no official change in his status. However, per a family friend who is in the University of Cincinnati hospital with Damar, Hamlin has received some ‘positive readings’ that doctors were hoping for.

Per Coley Hervey of ESPN, “doctors overnight got promising readings that they had been hoping to see by this morning. Jordon couldn’t go into specifics, but progress appears to be made.”

The family of Damar Hamlin also wanted to clear up some inaccuracies regarding Hamlin’s health:

  • Hamlin was only resuscitated once, and that was on the field at Paycor Stadium.
  • Tee Higgins in no way is to blame for what happened to Damar, per Hamlin’s own father.

Higgins had caught some heat from former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Bart Scott, though most reasonable football fans called out Scott for his outlandish remarks.

Positive medical update on Damar Hamlin

It’s important to note that Damar Hamlin isn’t out of the woods just yet. The health of any human being is fragile, especially one who has been through as much trauma as the Bills safety has in recent hours.

As for the game itself, the NFL’s most recent update suggested they were far more concerned about Hamlin’s health than Week 18, or the need to make up the Bills vs Bengals Monday Night Football game. They’d be correct to think that, were it genuine.

ESPN’s Joe Buck reported that, initially, the league had wanted the game to restart after a five-minute break. However, coaches and captains from both teams made it clear that was not in the cards.

We’ll have further updates on Hamlin’s health as they are made available to us.
