NFL mock draft: 3 teams that Max Duggan could thrive on
By John Buhler
Max Duggan can buy into energy factory that is Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks
While Geno Smith had a career year with the Seattle Seahawks, Pete Carroll’s team does not have a long-term solution just yet at the quarterback position. Should Smith be the starter going forward? Oh, absolutely. But you have to remember that he is a former failed starting quarterback with the New York Jets and had been a backup prior to this season. Does Duggan have a chance?
Given that the Seahawks love to pound the rock offensively under Carroll’s watch, Duggan has the skill set to theoretically make it work in Seattle. Even more so, the underdog mentality he fully embraced while at TCU plays very well to the culture Carroll has created over in the Pacific Northwest for going on two decades now. This is a decent team with a good entry point as well.
Frankly, Seattle is one of the few places where Duggan could not only have a chance to go to a winning culture, but also potentially have a chance to play early enough in his NFL career. Although it may not be right away with Smith having tapped into what made him so good at West Virginia, Duggan may be a better fit as the Seahawks’ backup quarterback over someone like Drew Lock.
Carroll will not be around forever, but Seattle is not a bad first NFL team for Duggan to go play for.
