Patrick Mahomes left conflicted over Georgia vs TCU rooting interest
Patrick Mahomes will be among the many fans watching the CFP National Championship Game but he’s torn on whether he can root for TCU against Georgia.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders enjoyed a fine season under Joey McGuire, finishing at 8-5 with a win over Ole Miss in the Texas Bowl. They were not, however, anywhere remotely close to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
But as a Texas Tech rival, the TCU Horned Frogs, prepares for battle against the Georgia Bulldogs in that game, Red Raiders great and current Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is in a conundrum.
On the one hand, as he shared on Twitter, Mahomes feels compelled to root for the Big 12 to win its first national championship in the CFP era as that was the conference he called home. However, the Chiefs superstar is unsure if he’s actually allowed by the binding oath in Lubbock to root for TCU.

The responses to Mahomes’ incredibly unserious crisis were mixed, with some fans saying that he couldn’t betray the Red Raiders and others saying that representing the Big 12 was more important than the conference rivalry. So I doubt he actually got any help in clarifying what he should do from the social media crowd.
But really, the likely NFL MVP from the 2022 season is facing an age-old problem for fans. If you’re team’s not playing, do you root for the conference no matter what or do you keep the rivalry battle lines drawn if that’s the case?
With the way Patrick Mahomes tends to watch big games such as TCU vs Georgia, though, we’ll likely have a clear picture who he’s cheering for based on his reactions.
