Stetson Bennett IV reveals what he wants to be remembered for at Georgia
Stetson Bennett IV shared how he wants to be remembered in the Georgia football pantheon.
Win or lose, Stetson Bennett IV is already a Georgia football legend.
The sixth-year senior and former walk-on has put together a college career that is stranger than fiction. How does an undersized quarterback from rural South Georgia go on to be the most storied quarterback in team history? He may not have had the talent of Aaron Murray, Matthew Stafford or Fran Tarkenton, but Bennett is one win away from creating an impenetrable legacy.
As far as how he wants to be remembered, he told Tim Tebow that he wants to be remembered as a “tough, tough dude.”
It goes beyond being physically tough, but emotionally tough and spiritually tough, battle-tested.
Stetson Bennett IV on how he wants to be remembered by Georgia football fans
No matter how this final chapter ends for him in Athens, Bennett will go down as college football’s version of Kurt Warner, an overlooked quarterback who defied all the odds to become a champion. A win or a loss vs. TCU is not going to change this narrative all that much. Georgia may be a blue-blooded college football program, but it had to embrace the underdog mentality to be a champion.
And it has not just been his miraculous climb to the top of the Bulldogs’ quarterbacking depth chart. It has been Bennett’s uncanny ability to save his best football for when the game requires it. He can be having a down game for his standard, but will be able to brush off all the adversity piling up on him to just win it in the fourth quarter. Bennett typically plays his best ball vs. ranked teams.
Ultimately, college football has been so lucky to have a player like him. In a sport where stars definitely matter, it is not about the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the Dawg! Bennett is an absolute … DAWG! No amount of naysayers can crush his unbreakable spirit. This is why he is able to galvanize an entire locker room full of four and five-stars. He is different.
We may never see a college football player quite like Bennett, so we better enjoy his final game.
