WNBA Free Agency: 3 potential destinations for Emma Meesseman

Emma Meesseman may not be the top free agent in 2023 but she will have plenty of suitors among the WNBA’s aspiring contenders.

Emma Meesseman was drafted in the second round with the No. 7 pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics. She spent the first seven years of her career in Washington, making an All-Star team and winning a title.

Last year, Meesseman signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Sky who were coming off the 2021 WNBA championship. Meesseman finished the 2022 season averaging 12.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 34.2 percent from 3-point range. Chicago finished the season with the second-best overall record in the league, 26-10, but came up short in the playoffs.

The Sky will enter the 2023 season with plenty of question marks and Meesseman’s best opportunities for another title and meaningful minutes may be elsewhere.

Here are three potential destinations for Meesseman in this upcoming free agency.

3. Emma Meesseman could sign with the Minnesota Lynx

The first potential option for Meesseman could be the Minnesota Lynx. Granted, this may not be a grand slam but it’s possible because of the recent retirement of Sylvia Fowles.

Fowles has been the foundation for the Minnesota Lynx the past few seasons and they could use another forward who can space the floor. Meesseman can shoot and help stretch the defense while still wreaking havoc in the post. As of now, the Lynx’s core consists of Napheesa Collier, Kayla McBridge, Jessica Shepard, and Aerial Powers.

Adding the Belgium native would provide a point forward that can handle the ball, distribute the ball, and score when needed. Not to mention Meesseman is a solid leader who knows how to win at the highest level.
