Bills announce another major step in Damar Hamlin recovery

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott revealed another positive update regarding the recovery of safety Damar Hamlin.

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been getting better with each passing day since suffering cardiac arrest back in Week 17. After having CPR given to him for nearly 10 minutes on the field at Paycor Stadium and entering University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition, Hamlin’s health has improved. So much so, that he was discharged from UC Medical Center to head home to Buffalo last week.

On Wednesday, Bills head coach Sean McDermott revealed that Hamlin is in the team’s building “starting daily.” McDermott said that Hamlin’s not in team meetings just yet, saying, “taking it one baby step at a time.”

This is once again more news that fans of the Bills and other NFL teams that have been pulling for Hamlin will love.

When admitted to the hospital after his medical scare, Hamlin was attached to a breathing tube. A matter of days later, Hamlin had the tube removed and was able to move his hands and feet. The very first thing he asked doctors, which had NFL fans smiling, was “did we win?” That was when Dr. Timothy Pritt said “yes, Damar, you won. You won the game of life.”

On Jan. 9, Hamlin revealed that he was discharged from UC Medical Center, and that he would return to Buffalo for further treatment. A matter of days later, the Bills said that Hamlin was discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute after undergoing a medical evaluation and cardiac, vascular, and neurological testing.

“We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills.

Hamlin is currently on the injured reserve, but his contract will be paid in full after an agreement between the NFL and the Player’s Association (NFLPA).

Now, over two weeks after his medical scare, Hamlin is back in the Bills’ building.
