Jaden Rashada asks for release from Florida LOI: 5 programs that need to snag 5-star QB
By John Buhler
The best landing spot for Jaden Rashada is Washington, but would he go there?
One program that is very much on the rise out west is the Washington Huskies. After the disaster that was the brief Jimmy Lake era, Washington seems to have struck gold with Kalen DeBoer as the Huskies head coach. Having one more year with Michael Penix Jr. at quarterback should do wonders for the program going forward. But what happens after Penix has to turn pro in 2024?
With Huskies legacy quarterback Sam Huard hitting the transfer portal, Washington is without a long-term solution under center beyond this season. Penix is the unquestioned starter in 2023, but Rashada would have a great opportunity to back up a Heisman Trophy contender and play for a program that seems to be heading in the right direction. The question is if Rashada will go there.
Washington might be the best landing spot, but NIL and other opportunities will complicate things.
Arizona State might be the new favorite to land Jaden Rashada’s commitment
The stars could be aligning in The Valley. Native son Kenny Dillingham is the new face of the Arizona State football program. While he certainly has had quite the come-up as a college coach, he is only in his early 30s. Factor in the Pac-12 going through a bit of a coaching renaissance, and Dillingham needs to get things rolling quickly so that his alma mater’s team is not left in the dust.
Besides Arizona State being a West Coast program, there are two big factors in the Sun Devils potentially getting Rashada’s commitment. The first is Dillingham was the Oregon offensive coordinator last year, a team that was very much in on Rashada down the stretch. The other is this: Rashada’s father Harlen played for the Sun Devils in the early 1990s. This feels right, right?
The dynamics may have changed enough of late for Rashada to be potentially heading to Tempe.
