Looking at the biggest comeback in NFL history to see which teams have overcome the biggest halftime deficits in the regular season and playoffs alike.

While New York Giants fans were hoping that the G-Men would play spoiler against the top-seeded Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 NFL Playoffs, that was not the way things played out on the field.

The Eagles jumped all over the Giants in front of the home crowd in Philly as they scored on their opening drive, forced a big punt, then scored again. When it was all said and done, New York trailed 28-0 at halftime and all hope looked lost.

But when Big Blue scored a touchdown in the third quarter, it got fans asking about the biggest comeback in NFL history. Don’t worry, we’ve got all the info you need on the largest deficits overcome ever in the league.

Biggest comeback in NFL history

The biggest comeback that the NFL has ever seen actually happened in the 2022 regular season on Christmas Eve. The Indianapolis Colts were throttling the Minnesota Vikings as they led 33-0 at halftime and were up 36-3 with just over eight minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Kirk Cousins and the Vikings then put on a masterclass on both sides of the ball to score 33 unanswered points and force overtime before kicking the game-winning field goal and winning 39-36 in OT.

Biggest comeback in NFL Playoffs history

Prior to the Vikings’ comeback against the Colts, the biggest playoff comeback and biggest comeback in NFL history were actually one in the same.

In the 1992 Wild Card Round of the playoffs, the Houston Oilers were up 35-3 (32 points) on the Buffalo Bills before backup quarterback Frank Reich caught fire in the third quarter and spurned the Bills to outscore Houston 35-3 after falling so far behind. That led to overtime with a 38-38 tie when the Bills overcame the deficit with a 32-yard field goal in OT to win 41-38.
