Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase took a bit of a shot at Bills quarterback Josh Allen while praising Joe Burrow as “a true quarterback.”

Ja’Marr Chase picked the perfect time to share his thoughts on quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. Since they came right before the game between the Bengals and Bills, the opposing quarterback didn’t get to use the words as bulletin material.

It should come as no surprise that Chase went to bat for his quarterback, Burrow. But in doing so he diminished Allen by comparison.

“(Burrow) is a true quarterback. Look, Josh Allen’s a great QB too, but Joe can do it all,” Chase said per Kimberley Martin of ESPN. “Josh Allen’s game revolves around just being a dual-threat, running QB. That’s not bad. But Joe’s more of a Peyton Manning, Tom Brady-type of QB.”

Ja’Marr Chase called Joe Burrow a “true QB” compared to Josh Allen

Burrow has been a revelation since entering the league as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. That’s why it’s a bit strange that Chase also told Martin that Burrow is “disrespected” and “overlooked.”

This year, Burrow was a Pro Bowl selection after winning the Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2021. He threw for 4,475 yards and 35 touchdowns.

Allen also made the Pro Bowl with 4,283 yards and 35 touchdowns.

Burrow threw 12 interceptions to Allen’s 14. Their adjusted yards per attempt where nearly identical at 7.68 for Allen and 7.65 for Burrow.

They’re certainly not identical quarterbacks. Allen does more with his legs, rushing for 762 yards and seven touchdowns this year. However, Burrow has some mobility. This year he punched in five touchdowns with 257 yards on the ground.

That’s just to say it’s hard to truly separate them on a statistical level. They’re both stellar. They both have their teams dreaming of Super Bowl triumph.

Allen is fiery and passionate. Burrow is the epitome of cool.

Whether or not one is a more “true” quarterback than the other would be open for debate. We know where Chase sits on that debate at least.
