The Green Bay Packers have a tough decision to make with Aaron Rodgers this offseason. Rodgers is 39 years old but not yet ready to hang up his cleats.

No. 12 had a rougher season than most in Green Bay. Rodgers was forced to gel with a new, young receiving corps after the front office opted to trade his favorite target in Davante Adams.

It took some time, but eventually Rodgers got there, and Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs have come a long way. Nonetheless, there’s no guarantee Rodgers returns next year. The Packers drafted his eventual replacement in Jordan Love in 2020, and he’s made steady improvements since then.

Rodgers will have to face the same choices his predecessor did, at some point. Does he retire with something left to give, or perhaps meet the Packers halfway? The off ramp allows him to play elsewhere, which was an unthinkable option just a few years ago.

Aaron Rodgers rumors: New York Jets make sense

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggested the Jets could be a viable option for Aaron Rodgers on Sunday in a SportsCenter segment:

"“We don’t know the list of teams just yet, it’s very early, but we know that Aaron Rodgers does not want to a rebuilding situation. That will eliminate some of the teams. So, he’s due that $58 million; a team has to be willing to rework that. But you look at a team like the Jets. The expectation is they’re going to scour the Earth for a new quarterback potentially, so any of those teams will look into this possibility. They’re not rebuilding anymore, they’re probably ready to win.”"

The only conflict to that report is that the Jets don’t want to trade Zach Wilson. However, it’d be possible for Wilson to learn behind a player like Rodgers, who doesn’t have much time left playing.

It would cost the Jets, but they have an elite roster at most positions. As we found out in 2022, New York is just a quarterback away.
