Every season, people say that the Kansas City Chiefs‘ path to the Super Bowl is supposed to get more difficult. They traded away star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, watched key players get older, whiffed on Clyde Edwards-Helaire as a first-round pick, have incurred countless key injuries on defense, and have just seemingly been up against it.

And yet, it hasn't slowed down the Chiefs at all. They are just one win away from playing for yet another Super Bowl under Patrick Mahomes' lead in the 2023-24 seaons and playoffs. But that doesn't mean that fans aren't wondering just how long ago -- or how recently, Kansas City's last Super Bowl win was.

For Kansas City’s Super Bowl history, you don’t have to look to far to see when the last time they won the Lombardi Trophy.

When was the last time the Chiefs won the Super Bowl?

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl back in the 2022-23 season.

Kansas City started that playoff run with a bye as the AFC's No. 1 seed before dispatching the Jacksonville Jaguars in a close one in the Divisional Round. They continued with an instant-classic win over the Bengals in the AFC Championship, which was bettered only by the Super Bowl, when they outlasted a dangerous Eagles team, 38-35, in dramatic fashion to give the Chiefs their second Lombardi Trophy since Mahomes took over at quarterback.

In the win over the Eagles, Mahomes captured his second Super Bowl MVP honor, going 21-of-27 for 182 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 44 yards.

The Chiefs' previous victory in the Super Bowl came in the 2019-20 season.

How many times have the Chiefs won the Super Bowl?

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl three times in their franchise’s history. Prior to their win in the 2019 season, Kansas City last won a Super Bowl back in the 1969 campaign, where they beat the Minnesota Vikings.

Kansas City made the Super Bowl five times. They lost twice in the big game — once vs. the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl 1 and vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55.

Here are the full results of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl appearances:

  • Super Bowl 1: Lost vs. Packers 35-10
  • Super Bowl 4: Won vs. Vikings 23-7
  • Super Bowl 54: Won vs. 49ers 31-20
  • Super Bowl 55: Lost vs. Buccaneers 31-9
  • Super Bowl 57: Won vs. Eagles 38-35
