After Scott Rolen was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023, which former MLB players will earn their place in Cooperstown in 2024?

The “small Hall” mentality of voting members of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) once again shined through on Tuesday when it was announced that only one former MLB player on the ballot had earned the necessary 75 percent of votes in order to be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame (Scott Rolen was named on 76.3 of the returned ballots, culminating what has been a build of support over his six years on the ballot).

While only Rolen made it this year, there were several who made significant advances toward enshrinement in 2023 and likely set themselves up to join the immortals of baseball in Cooperstown in 2024.

Which former MLB players will make the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024?

Of those who fell short of induction this year, Todd Helton was the player who came the closest to earning 75 percent of the votes but didn’t make it inside the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023. Helton, who played 17 seasons for the Colorado Rockies, earned 72.2 percent of the vote in his fifth year on the ballot. There is little doubt that Helton will jump over the 75 percent threshold next year, joining Larry Walker as the only two members of the Rockies enshrined in Cooperstown.

Also making the jump will likely be Billy Wagner, who earned a vote on 68.1 percent of the ballots this cycle in his eighth year on the ballot. Much like Walker, who finally was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020 on his 10th and final time on the ballot, Wagner will likely earn plenty of votes from BBWAA voters who know his time is drawing short to earn a spot from them in Cooperstown. It could well be enough to push him over the edge and into baseball immortality.

One player who will be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024 on his very first year on the ballot is Adrian Beltre. In his 21-year career, the third baseman logged 93.5 bWAR while earning five Gold Gloves, four Silver Sluggers, and two Platinum Gloves. You can learn more about his credentials and why he is very likely a first-ballot Hall of Famer here.

After having just one player elected this season, expect the 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame class to include Beltre, Helton and Wagner.
