Jahmyr Gibbs could be the second running back taken after only Bijan Robinson

Though he would have been a top prospect anyway had he just stayed put at Georgia Tech, Jahmyr Gibbs still made a wise decision to transfer to Alabama. There were moments during his lone season in Tuscaloosa where he looked like the best running back in football. That Arkansas game of his was special. However, he will have to settle for being Second-Team All-SEC after last year.

Regardless, Gibbs is probably the second running back taken this spring behind only Texas superstar Bijan Robinson. While Robinson is the only lock to go in the first round out of this position group, Gibbs could make it two first-round running backs if a championship-caliber team is desperate enough to address its ground game. Admittedly, this still feels like a luxury selection.

Let’s hope a team besides the Buffalo Bills will make use of his Gibbs’ great running back talents.

Miles Sanders and Boston Scott are both hitting NFL free agency this winter

One team that would actually make a ton of sense for Gibbs would be the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. Their head coach Nick Sirianni makes it a point to ram the ball down the opposition’s throat repeatedly. More importantly, many of their best offensive players starred collegiately at Alabama (Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith). There is also one other huge factor here…

Philadelphia may have a championship-level roster and a proclivity of running the football, but Miles Sanders and Boston Scott will be free agents after this season. While one, or both, could conceivably return, using one of the last two picks in the first round on a player like Gibbs does make all the sense in the world, especially to get the potential fifth-year option at their disposal.

We can only hope Gibbs is not the next Clyde-Edwards Helaire coming off the board around 32…
