UFC 284: Who is Jack Jenkins?
The UFC is back in Australia for the first time since 2019, and “Phar” Jack Jenkins (10-2) who fights out of Victoria, Australia will make his UFC debut. Jenkins will challenge Don Shainis (12-4) in the featherweight division and is placed as the fourth fight of the night to end the early prelims.
Last July, Jenkins fought and earned his spot on the UFC roster when he was awarded a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series by impressively finishing his opponent via ground and pound in the third round. In this showcase, he outclassed at all levels by demonstrating he’s an elite prospect with excellent striking and managed to make a statement that he can mix it up by securing four takedowns.
Jenkins is on a 7-fight winning streak and eight (5 KOs, 3 submissions) of his victories have come by way of finish. The matchup in terms of size against Shainis is pretty even with Jenkins having one inch in edge in height and reach.
Jack Jenkins will make his UFC debut at UFC 284 against Don Shainis
After a standout performance to cap off the year in 2022, Jenkins faces his toughest battle thus far in his career when ready to go across from him inside the Octagon is Shainis. He sets himself up to bounce back after his first UFC appearance last year concluded shortly after being submitted by Sodiq Yusuff.
Shainis is a relentless fighter who pressures forward intending to go for a clinch to set up a takedown. With 10 finishes (8 KOs, 2 submissions) in 12 victories, Jenkins will need to be wary of keeping the exchanges standing and continue to build on his takedown defense.
Jenkins is a sizeable favorite and is the second biggest favorite on the fight card with WynnBet having him at odds of (-345).
