Shannon Ross is set to make his official UFC debut as he steps into the Octagon in front of his countrymen at UFC 284.

The UFC is heading back to Perth, Australia for UFC 284. This card features several big bouts, but none are bigger than the UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski making a jump in weight to take on UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev. Along with this massive main event, there are several other fights to keep an eye on, including Shannon Ross stepping into the UFC for his promotional debut.

At 33 years of age, Ross finds himself in the Octagon with an opportunity to correct some recent career missteps. Ross battled for a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series last year but was stopped in the second round by Vinicius Salvador. But that setback wasn’t enough to keep him down and out, even after he faced serious health issues.

Shannon Ross had to fight with surprising medical issues

During the UFC 284 media day, Ross revealed that he fought with a ruptured appendix and blood poisoning. He would spend five days in the hospital before he was able to return home. The UFC found out about the situation and Ross was granted a second opportunity to fight in the company, this time coming on a major show on his home turf.

Ross now is scheduled to stand across from Kelydson Rodrigues in the UFC flyweight division. His opponent, Rodrigues has experienced some of the active skill set. Rodrigues brings a 7-2 professional record into this contest, compared to the 13-6 record Moss will bring into the contest.

Before this, Ross spent most of his time on the independent circuits, where he amassed his resume in organizations like UAE Warriors, ACB, and Eternal MMA. According to Tapology, Ross’s career started back in 2010.
