3. Is a Lamar Jackson trade actually better for the Raiders than Aaron Rodgers?

If Aaron Rodgers is coming back to play in the NFL for the 2023 season and indeed decides he doesn’t want to suit up for the Green Bay Packers, there is basically believed to be a lucrative two-horse race in the league to try and trade for him. The Las Vegas Raiders are one of the two.

With the Raiders set to move on from Derek Carr this offseason, the simple truth is that they are going to be in the quarterback market and, after last year’s Davante Adams trade, the assumption is that they have to be aggressive.

But the truth of the matter is that we don’t know if Rodgers is planning to retire or play, we don’t know if the Raiders can land Rodgers, and we just don’t know what will happen. As such, they should be ready with a Plan B, namely calling the Ravens and offering this trade package for Lamar Jackson.

It’s clear the Raiders are trying to quickly build on the fly under head coach Josh McDaniels and Jackson would help jumpstart that hugely. The package would likely be heavy on immediate draft capital, which might help them make any kind of deal. In any case, you could even make the argument that, if this trade would work, that it should be Plan A over pursuing Rodgers.
