Patrick Mahomes has been nursing an ankle injury. How is he looking heading into the final game of the season, and the most important one of them all?

Even if he wasn’t 100 percent ready to go, you know Patrick Mahomes would probably still play today in Super Bowl 57. It would take a significant injury to keep him off the field in the biggest game of the year.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback suffered an ankle injury in the divisional round in the team’s first playoff game of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. That injury occured early on in the game and Mahomes has had to battle through it for essentially two full games now.

He has performed admirably, and the ankle injury is bad enough to still be a storyline now, several weeks later. With a week off in between the AFC Championship game and the Super Bowl, though, he’s had time to rest and keep his ankle out of harm’s way.

Here’s the latest report on Sunday morning.

Patrick Mahomes injury update is more good news for Chiefs fans

The reports about the ankle injury for Mahomes throughout the week have been relatively optimistic. Most recently, he was taken off the injury report entirely without any sort of designation.

That, of course, doesn’t mean he’s without pain, it’s just that the team expects him to be able to go.

Early Sunday morning, Adam Schefter dropped some nuggets about how he’s looked in practice this week:

Juxtaposing this week compared to AFC Championship week, Mahomes is in a much better spot. Mahomes ended up throwing for over 300 yards and two touchdowns in that game. So, yeah, not the best news to wake up to if you’re an Eagles fan.

Chiefs fans, though, can rejoice.

A healthy Mahomes in the Super Bowl? That’s exactly what NFL fans want to hear going into this game.
