It’s crowded up at the top of the MAC standings right now. The Toledo Rockets are certainly in the mix, just barely behind Kent State for the top spot at 21-6 (12-2), and the Akron Zips are in third at 19-8 (11-3). These two met up back on February 7 and Toledo went into Akron and left with an 84-74 win over the Zips. Akron is 2-1 since that game.

Toledo is absolutely rolling right now. The Rockets have won 11 straight, their last loss was to Kent State back on January 14. They’re certainly one of the hottest teams in the country and if they run the table, they have a shot to overtake Kent State for the MAC regular season title. Let’s look at the odds.

Akron vs. Toledo odds, spread and total

Akron vs. Toledo prediction and pick

The Rockets are an offensive juggernaut. They score the second most points per game in the country, 84.7, shoot 48.6% from the field and 38.5% from three and are second to Gonzaga in offensive efficiency. Their season offensive efficiency is 1.156 in a dead tie with the Zags for first, but over their most recent three games, they are up to 1.184.

RayJ Dennis leads the way with 19.1 points and 5.8 assists per game, but they have four players who average double figures; JT Shumate, Setric Millner Jr. and Dante Maddox Jr. When they beat Akron earlier this month all four finished in double figures, but the concern is they only got 10 points from their bench in that one.

Their offense is elite and it’ll need to be elite tonight to beat Akron who is 37th in opponent points per game, 64.2. It’s tough to put much stock in that number when Toledo hung 84 on Akron so recently. I’ll take the Rockets who are 5-1 against the spread in their last six home games.
