Ranking the Jets quarterback options for 2023 from worst to best

The New York Jets are in the market for a new quarterback. Let’s break down their options from worst-case to best-case scenario.

Few teams figure to be more aggressive in the quarterback market this offseason than the New York Jets. After a disastrous season at the position cost an ascending team a shot at the playoffs, GM Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh know that they need to upgrade on Zach Wilson if they want to have jobs after the 2023 season.

Any passer on this list would likely be good enough to get the Jets into the playoffs, snapping the league’s longest postseason drought, but landing the right quarterback can make them legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Let’s take a look at five options for New York, ranging from the worst-case scenario to the best-case option.

5. Jets’ quarterback options – Jacoby Brissett

You can substitute anybody in the bridge quarterback tier, such as Baker Mayfield, Gardner Minshew, or Andy Dalton in this position but Brissett has the highest upside of any of them. Brissett posted a solid season as Cleveland’s starter while Deshaun Watson served out a suspension, completing 64 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,608 yards and posting a 12:6 touchdown to interception ratio.

The problem with picking a passer from this bucket of players is that it offers the least upgrade over Wilson, which would mean that New York has to fight hard to get into the playoffs in 2023. Going the bridge route should only be a last resort for the Jets, who are an attractive enough destination that they should be able to do better at the position.
