Top OVER and UNDER NHL teams to bet on in 2022-23 season
We’re in the final two months of the NHL regular season, so we’re starting to get a clear picture of what teams are made of.
If you want to find out which teams are the most and least profitable to bet on this season, you can find that out in my article here.
In this piece, I’m going to break down the best OVER and UNDER teams thus far.
Let’s dive into it.
Best NHL OVER teams
- Oilers 37-17-4 (67.2%)
- Canucks 35-18-4 (64.9%)
- Blues 33-19-5 (62.3%)
- Panthers 34-21-5 (60.8%)
- Sharks 34-22-2 (60.3%)
- Ducks 33-24-1 (57.8%)
- Sabres 31-23-1 (57.3%)
- Kings 31-24-3 (56%)
- Blackhawks 29-26-1 (52.7%)
- Lightning 27-25-4 (51.8%)
The key to being a good OVER team isn’t necessarily having a good offense. Instead, it seems like the best indicator for being a good OVER team is having terrible goaltending.
The bottom four teams in the NHL in save percentage all rank inside the top 10 when it comes to the OVER. Three of those bottom four teams rank inside the top five in the Canucks, Blues, and Sharks.
Of course, having a good offense can certainly help as well. The Oilers average the most goals per game in the NHL at 3.72 per 60 minutes.
Best NHL UNDER teams
- Jets 38-15-4 (70.2%)
- Stars 35-19-3 (64%)
- Avalanche 33-20-2 (61.8%)
- Senators 32-23-1 (58%)
- Wild 32-23-2 (57.9%)
- Capitals 32-23-4 (57.6%)
- Golden Knights 30-23-4 (56.1%)
- Bruins 29-23-4 (55.4%)
- Canadiens 29-24-4 (54.4%)
- Penguins 29-25-2 (53.6%)
The Jets are an UNDER bettors team, cashing at a 70.2% clip through two thirds of the season. That’s over 6% than the next best UNDER team.
Much like how bad goaltending leads to OVERs cashing, good goaltending leads to plenty of UNDERs. The top four teams in save percentage all rank inside the top 10 in the UNDER standings. Three of those four teams hold the top three spots in the Jets, Stars, and Avalanche.
Remember, these trends are good to keep in mind, but I wouldn’t recommend blindly betting them in remaining games for the rest of the season.
