1 trade the Kansas City Royals want to take back: David Cone

Kansas City, Missouri’s native son was traded not just once, but twice. That’s why David Cone has to be the trade that Kansas City wants back. Cone, who was born in KC, was actually drafted by his hometown Royals and debuted for Kansas City in 1986.

But prior to the 1987 season, Cone was traded to the New York Mets where he spent the next six seasons and went to two All-Star Games. Cone was then traded again in 1992 to the Toronto Blue Jays where he won a World Series.

But in 1993, Cone returned home and re-signed with the Kansas City Royals. After putting up average numbers in 1993, Cone went on to win the AL Cy Young Award in the strike-shortened 1994 season.

But the Royals did the unthinkable and traded Cone once again. Cone was dealt back to the Blue Jays after the strike ended. The right-hander was once again traded, this time to the New York Yankees.

Back in the Big Apple for the first time since 1992, David Cone shined brightly under the lights of New York City. He won four more World Series while with the Yankees and pitched a perfect game in 1999.
