UFC Vegas 70 : Who is Victor Martinez?

On Saturday there will be five newcomers stepping foot for the first time in the Octagon, and one of them is “The Brick” Victor  Martinez (13-4) who will be making his debut against lightweight Jordan Leavitt (10-2). Martinez is riding a hot streak of seven straight wins and is eager to extend it to eight and give Leavitt a second consecutive loss. He was initially scheduled for his first UFC fight against Leavitt in April 2022, but for unknown reasons had to withdraw.

It’s been a long time coming for Martinez after almost a year and a half from action since earning a contract from Dana White’s Contender Series. He did so by going the distance and the judges scoring a unanimous decision when he faced a tough opponent, Jacob Rosales. Before earning a shot at Dana White’s Contender Series, Martinez fought and won the lightweight championship belt at Fury FC in 2019.

Martinez throughout his career has a resume of eight finishes, all by way of KO/TKO, meanwhile, he has been submitted twice and KO/TKO once. His last defeat comes by way of a split decision in 2016.

Leavitt looks to bounce back by submitting a talented striker

In terms of the matchup, Martinez has the advantage in the striking and Leavitt will attempt to take the fight to the ground and grapple. Both fighters share similar body measurements, with Martinez giving up one inch in height and reach.

Leavitt is coming off his second loss and his first time being submitted when he went across the ocean and fought Paddy Pimblett. He has finished seven of his opponents in his career- six submissions and one KO/TKO.

According to WynnBet, the betting lines for this lightweight matchup are very even with Martinez being a close favorite at (-115) and Leavitt at odds of (-105).
