MLB rumors: White Sox, Twins add to their pitching staff
Bryan Shaw, Chicago White Sox
Free-agent reliever Bryan Shaw and the Chicago White Sox agreed to a minor-league contract that includes an invite to spring training. Shaw, the longtime Cleveland Guardians reliever, would earn $1 million if he’s in the majors, according to a source.
While Shaw had a down year by his standards in 2022, he is just one season removed from posting a 3.49 ERA in 81 appearances. The White Sox are hoping they get that version of Shaw.
Jeff Hoffman, Minnesota Twins
Right-hander Jeff Hoffman and the Minnesota Twins are in agreement on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training. Hoffman has a very good chance of making the Opening Day roster, according to a source.
Here’s the full breakdown of the contract:
- $1.3 million if Hoffman is in the majors.
- Opt-outs on March 28, May 15 and June 15.
- $50K at 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 games.
Hoffman had arguably the best season of his career in 2022 with the Cincinnati Reds. In 35 games, Hoffman posted a 3.83 ERA and 1.410 WHIP. The Twins hope he can build upon that campaign.
