MLB news: Spring training is in full swing, so it’s time to check in with the Baseball Insiders. This week focuses on injury updates and yet another Padres addition.

FanSided’s MLB insider Robert Murray and host Adam Weinrib are back this week with another edition of the Baseball Insiders Podcast.

With spring games beginning last week, there’s certainly plenty to talk about this week. Bert and Adam will speak to the devastating injury news coming out of LA, another free agent signing by A.J. Preller, and a game without interference from the umpires…sort of. Let’s get at it.

MLB news: Joe Musgrove, Yordan Alvarez, Tyler Glasnow injuries

Injuries are part of the game, but you never want to see injuries occur outside of the regualr season. The Los Angeles Dodgers face the uncertainty of what to do now that Gavin Lux will be out for the season following a devastating knee injury.

The overriding assumption from the podcast is that Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts may see increased time on the infield dirt this season. This is something that Betts has been clamoring for in the past, and could, in fact, help to extend the former MVP’s career over the long haul.

In other news, there were several other injuries throughout Major League Baseball this past week that may affect whether or not a few players are ready for Opening Day. That, of course, includes the likes of Joe Musgrove, Yordan Alvarez, and Tyler Glasnow.

Musgrove dropped a weight while working out and is expected to miss some time. Alvarez has a lingering hand injury, but is expected to be ready for Opening. Finally, the oft-injured Glasnow has an oblique injury that could sidelined the southpaw for up to two months.

Weinrib posed the question to Murray and asked which injury is most concerning. Murray was pretty quick to point out that Glasnow’s injury is by far the most concerning citing the fact that oblique injuries can be quite tricky.

In the same breath, however, Murray pointed to Musgrove’s injury as perhaps equally as concerning. The Padres need their $100-million man to toe the rubber every fifth day. (Side note: In a podcast filled with puns courtesy of Adam Weinrib, Joe Musgrove “toeing” the rubber while nursing a broken toe is as far as I can go).
