NFL rumors: Jerry Jones might be up to something during NFL free agency

As a surprise to absolutely no one, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had something interesting to say with a microphone in his face. Never one to skate around a question, Jones told Jon Machota of The Athletic the Cowboys could make a huge splash in free agency by adding a veteran star. This is incredibly on-brand for Jones and the Cowboys, but this is the content our souls crave!

The best part about this is Jones did not put his foot in his mouth or reveal anything damning about the Cowboys’ plans in free agency. He talked a great deal about fit, which is all you can really ask for, to be honest. On paper, the Cowboys should contend for an NFC East crown, as well as potentially a deep run in the postseason. They are in win-now mode, but will they actually do it?

Jones is not getting any younger. Prospective free agents do not remember the glory days of America’s Team in the 1990s. That is not to say they can never get back to that zenith, but Dallas has been more of a hype machine than anything for the better part of three decades now. For the sake of content and overall league intrigue, a Cowboys run to the Super Bowl would be wonderful.

Admittedly, Dallas is not that far away from getting back to the NFC Championship Game anyway.
